Meet Dr. Andrew Peter

Growing up on a farm in rural Iowa, I formed a curiosity, ambition, and desire to continually learn more about the world around me.  Not only did I have room to explore, but was also required to be a problem solver and earn my fair share.  On a farm, there is no substitute for ingenuity and hard work that eventually ingrained a thought process and work ethic within me.  Perhaps most importantly I gained a sense of fulfillment as I saw my dad do something he loved every day.  “If you enjoy your job, you will never work a day in your life.”

After university, and before continuing to optometry school, I lived internationally and traveled extensively; primarily with backpack, climbing gear, and tent.  Doing so was probably one of the best decisions I ever made.  A fellow traveler wrote a brief article that has resonated with me regarding similar experiences: click here

Now living in Homer, seeing patients has fulfilled my need to problem-solve and maintain intellectual stimulation, while it being extremely rewarding helping others.  It is an honor to be surrounded by an amazing team at Homer Eyecare who all truly believe in what they do, and the difference they make for each and every patient of ours.

Outside of clinic, I enjoy skiing, cycling, kayaking, aviation, and international travel.  Memorable trips recently include: transecting the Pamir mountains of Tajikistan and Afghanistan and western Mongolia by bicycle, crisscrossing the Cordillera Blanca mountains of Peru by bicycle, climbing Mt. Blackburn in the Wrangell mountains of Alaska, and sea kayaking Northwestern Fjord on the outer Kenai coast.

Dr. Peter, his wife Heidi and their little daughter Thalia enjoy traveling in Alaska and in other places of the world.
