Insurance Information

We appreciate your trust in choosing Homer Eyecare for all your vision needs.

Understanding billing, insurance, and payment can be a challenging and overwhelming topic. We would love to minimize any problems you may experience regarding your insurance coverage.

Insurance benefits are constantly changing, so it is important to know what your policy covers at each visit. Homer Eyecare will do a screening of your policy; however, this does not guarantee coverage or payment by your insurance company. If you have any questions regarding your specific insurance policy, it is best to contact your insurance provider directly by calling the number listed on your insurance card. Understanding your insurance benefits and limitations will ensure that the billing process goes smoothly.

Homer Eyecare accepts most major medical and vision insurance such as:

  • BlueCrossBlue Shield (except BCBS with R-Prefix)
  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • EBMS
  • Relay/Rehn
  • Meritain
  • Moda
  • Tricare
  • UMR
  • Medicaid (Denali Kid Care)
  • Medicare
  • VSP

All payments, copays, coinsurances, & deductibles are due at the time of service and are an estimation of charges of services rendered. Insurance companies will often make a contribution towards products and services received, but will rarely cover in full.  It is the patient's responsibility for payment in full if your insurance denies any portion of the claim. For your convenience, you can pay by cash, check, money order, Visa or Mastercard. 

If you have one of the insurances listed above:

Our Patient Coordinators will collect any applicable co-payments, co-insurance, and other charges for non-covered services from you at the time of service. Then Homer Eyecare will submit a claim for the services to your insurance company and we expect to be reimbursed by your insurance company. Please, always be aware that payment from your insurance company cannot be guaranteed and benefits are generally not determined until your claim is fully processed. 

Once we have processed insurance payments if there is any remaining due balance for you, the patient, we will send a statement in the mail. Once a balance has been transferred from insurance to you, your prompt payment is greatly appreciated. 

If you have an insurance not listed above:
If you have insurance benefits provided by a company not listed above, please contact our Billing Coordinator at 907-235-7745 option 2. Our Billing Coordinator will be more than happy to provide you with any information you may need.

If services are not billed to insurance:
Payment is due at the time of service and, for our patients paying out-of-pocket, we offer our 20% Prompt Pay Discount on any services and materials that are technically billable to insurance.

Do you have any medical and/or vision insurance coverage?

  • Yes- Make sure that the Patient Coordinators have ALL of your insurance information for proper billing (both medical and vision coverage).
  • No- Don't worry! We proudly offer a 20% Day of Service Discount when paying out-of-pocket in-full within the same business day.

Do you know if we are an In-Network or Out-Of-Network Provider?

  • Yes- You did your research! You rock!
  • No- Insurance companies have different benefits for in-network and out-of-network. For more information call the customer service number listed on your insurance card.

Do you know the difference and coverage of your medical benefits and your vision benefits?

  • Yes- You did your research! You rock!
  • No- Don't worry! For questions regarding your benefits specifically, it is best to call the customer service number on your insurance card.

Is your main concern for your appointment Vision or Medical?

  • Vision- a new prescription for glasses or contacts.
  • Medical- Other systemic health concerns related to your vision.

Did you know that most insurance benefits only cover glasses or contacts?

  • Yes- You did your research! You rock!
  • No- Don't worry, you can still have both! We can bill your insurance for one and offer you our 20% Day of Service Discount on the other.

Do you know your copayment/coinsurance for today's visit?

  • No- Don't worry! We will collect 20% copay for today's visit and send the remaining bill to your insurance.
  • Yes- You did your research! You rock!

Do you know what a deductible is?

  • Yes- You did your research! You rock!
  • No- A deductible is the amount of money you must pay out-of-pocket before insurance coverage kicks in.

Have you met your deductible for the year?

  • Yes- We are more than happy to bill your insurance for services.
  • No- We can either bill your insurance and the balance will go toward your deductible, or we can bill you with our 20% day of service discount and you can submit to your insurance.
  • Not sure- Don't worry! Just call the customer service number listed on your insurance card.
